Vicky López wins the first-ever Kopa Trophy for women!
The young FC Barcelona player and former Donosti Cup participant is crowned “Best Young Player” in the world.
At just 18 years old, Vicky López has made history as the first-ever female winner of the Kopa Trophy, awarded by the Ballon d’Or to the best young player in the world. She triumphed over Colombian Linda Caicedo, Dutch Wieke Kaptein, English Michelle Agyemang, and Paraguayan Claudia Martínez.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Vicky highlighted the support of her family and mentors:
"The first thing that comes to mind is my family. Thank you, Dad, Laura, and my siblings for always being there. I dedicate this award to my mother, who is watching over me from heaven. I hope you are proud of me, Mom. I miss you."
She also acknowledged the role of her early clubs and mentors: "Thanks to Madrid CFF for helping me take my first steps; to RFEF, from U17 to the senior team; and to Barça, Jonatan Giráldez, Markel Zubizarreta, and Pere Romeu, who let me compete in the best team in the world at only 16."
Vicky, a former Donosti Cup player, had already shone in the tournament with Madrid CFF, winning the championship in 2018 and finishing as runner-up in 2019. Today, she is a key player for FC Barcelona, contributing to a historic four-title season in 2023-24, demonstrating versatility as a midfielder, winger, or even ‘false 9’. She is also part of the Spanish senior national team after excelling in the youth categories.
Last year, Vicky was awarded Tuttosport’s Golden Girl, sharing the spotlight with Lamine Yamal, Golden Boy. This year, she coincides with him again, this time winning the first female Kopa Trophy.
