The documentary "Summer of Hope", which narrates the experience of a team from Nepal in the Donosti Cup, has been presented in society.
The aim of the documentary is to raise funds to rebuild a school in Nepal that was destroyed by the earthquake in 2015.
The documentary "Summer of Hope" has been presented this weekend at the Silversport Cinema in Miami and has attracted a large audience. The film directed by Julio Sonino and written by Alfonso Duro narrates the adventures of a group of 13-year-old boys from Nepal and their journey to San Sebastian to participate in the Donosti Cup 2018.
These boys, who studied at the school "Nepal Scholar Home Academy", were among the thousands of children who in April 2015 suffered the brutal earthquake that shook the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, and left nearly 9,000 dead, 22,000 injured and millions of people affected and displaced.
Since the earthquake, Eladio Pérez, from the NGO "Golygol", began to provide sports equipment to schools affected by the earthquake. And on one of his trips back to Spain, Eladio came up with the idea of contacting the Donosti Cup to propose that the organisation invite one of these schools to participate in the tournament. Said and done: the Donosti Cup accepts the proposal in 2017 and preparations begin for a team from a school in Nepal to participate in the next edition.
Eladio Pérez, in turn, contacts his friend Alfonso Duro, a sports journalist from Mallorca living in the USA, and proposes to record the experiences of these kids in a documentary that would serve to raise awareness of the difficult situation the country is going through after the earthquake and, at the same time, raise funds to help in the reconstruction of the "Nepal Scholar Home Academy" school destroyed by the earthquake.
