The Vicky López Award is launched to recognize the talent and potential of the stars of tomorrow
The Spain international and FC Barcelona player lends her name to Donosti Cup's new award, which will honor the player who leaves the greatest mark on the tournament through her performances, talent and future potential.
Starting with this edition, Donosti Cup is introducing a new award dedicated to emerging talent in women's football. The Vicky López Award will recognize the player who, through her performances, talent and potential, leaves the greatest mark on the tournament. The initiative has been created in collaboration with one of the leading figures in Spanish football.
For Donosti Cup, this partnership is particularly meaningful. Vicky López played in several editions of the tournament during her youth, when—like thousands of girls who take part every summer—she dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. Today, as a Spain international and FC Barcelona player, she returns to the tournament to inspire a new generation and to recognize those young players who stand out for their quality, personality and potential.
Vicky's journey perfectly reflects the spirit of Donosti Cup: young players competing, learning, sharing experiences and growing through football. Seeing a former participant return from the very highest level of the game to give her name to this award is a source of great pride for the organization and a powerful reminder of how far the dreams of today's young players can take them.
To mark the launch of the award, Vicky López shared a message for its future winners:
"At Donosti Cup I experienced some of the best sporting and personal moments of my life. I always felt incredibly welcome, and everyone in the organization treated me so well. I was very young and, like every girl who plays football, I dreamed of becoming a professional player, playing for a top club and representing my national team. Today, some of those dreams have come true. Looking back, I truly believe that my experience at Donosti Cup played an important role in my development as a footballer.
To the player who receives this trophy, I would say: enjoy every moment of it. But remember that, although this is an individual award, football is a team sport and none of this is achieved alone. Appreciate it, keep believing in yourself and in your journey, because this is just one more step in your development."
The Vicky López Award has been created with the ambition of becoming a prestigious recognition of both the present and the future of women's football. Beyond rewarding performances during the tournament, it seeks to celebrate the talent, potential and values that define the development of young female footballers, following the example of a player who once dreamed on the pitches of Donosti Cup and has since become one of the brightest stars in international football.
