Diego André Mejía, Donosti Cup participant, makes his Sub-17 World Cup debut today in Qatar
The young defender, born in Chihuahua, will represent El Salvador in his World Cup debut against North Korea.
The young defender Diego André Mejía — who played at Donosti Cup with Real Sociedad Chihuahua — begins his journey at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar this Tuesday, representing the El Salvador national team.
The son of former Mexican player and coach Diego Mejía — a long-time collaborator of the tournament and promoter of the Apple Cup — Diego André’s double nationality has opened the door to a unique opportunity: wearing El Salvador’s shirt at a World Cup.
He is currently part of Club Santos Laguna, competing in the Liga MX U19 Apertura, where he continues to establish himself as one of the most promising young defenders.
El Salvador’s debut is scheduled for today against North Korea, in the match that will mark the start of their campaign in the championship. A very special moment for Diego André — who just a couple of years ago was competing in San Sebastián, enjoying Donosti Cup.
A story that once again highlights the impact and international reach of the tournament, where young talent from all over the world comes every summer to grow, to learn… and to dream of reaching the top.
