Ander Barrenetxea makes his debut with the senior national team
The San Sebastián-born winger started against Egypt last Tuesday at the RCDE Stadium
Ander Barrenetxea is now a senior international. The winger from San Sebastián made his debut this week with the Spain national team in the friendly against Egypt, starting the match and staying true to his style—showing pace, directness and personality from the wing.
His debut with the senior team marks the culmination of a complete journey through Spain’s youth ranks, having represented the country at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.
His path also has a special connection with the Donosti Cup. In 2014, he won the tournament with Antiguoko at Anoeta. Four years later, at that very same venue, he made his professional debut with Real Sociedad.
Now, eight years after taking his first steps in professional football and fully established in LaLiga, he reaches one of the most important milestones of his career: representing the senior national team.
His next goal is already clear: earning a spot in the squad for the 2026 World Cup—an objective also pursued by former Donosti Cup players such as Martín Zubimendi and Marcos Llorente.
Zorionak, Ander!
