CF Tramontana La Mina, the first Roma heritage club to participate in the Donosti Cup
The Catalan club, based in the La Mina neighbourhood (Sant Adrià de Besòs), has been invited by the Donosti Cup Foundation and will compete in the G14 and B12 categories.
The Donosti Cup 2026 will feature CF Tramontana La Mina, the first officially registered women’s club of Roma origin to take part in the tournament. Their participation has been made possible thanks to grants from the Donosti Cup Foundation.
CF Tramontana is a pioneering project based in the La Mina neighbourhood (Sant Adrià de Besòs), created as a social and sporting initiative to promote the inclusion of Roma girls and women through football. In recent years, the club has steadily developed its structure and has become a reference for its work in increasing visibility and breaking cultural, social and gender barriers in federated sport.
For its participation in the Donosti Cup, the club will bring a delegation of around ten players in the G14 category, reflecting its development model, where large squads are not usually available. The group will be reinforced by players from Oiartzun KE, in a collaboration that will allow the team to compete while enriching the sporting and human experience of all participants. Alongside them, a B12 team from the same club will also take part.
The Tramontana project represents a significant step forward in the normalisation of Roma women’s access to organised football, an area where their presence remains limited. Beyond the sporting aspect, the club has developed an important social role in its community, using football as a tool for cohesion, self-esteem and opportunity for young people in the neighbourhood.
The La Mina neighbourhood, located in Sant Adrià de Besòs (near Barcelona), was built in 1969 to rehouse families from informal settlements. It is characterised by high population density, cultural diversity, and low-income levels. Despite ongoing urban transformation plans and infrastructure improvements, it continues to face social challenges and a reputation linked to marginalisation and social inequality.
In the words of Toni Porto, President of the club:
“For our club it is a huge honour to take part in this prestigious youth football tournament and to represent, for the first time in the history of the Donosti Cup, a Roma heritage team.”
The coexistence of players from different backgrounds within the same team reinforces the spirit of the Donosti Cup, a tournament that places diversity, inclusion and cultural exchange at the heart of international youth football.
