Hispania Formación Futbolistas becomes the first team from the country to compete in the tournament.

16 de January de 2026

The Donosti Cup will reach a historic milestone in its next edition with the first-ever participation of Puerto Rico in the history of the tournament. Hispania Formación Futbolistas will represent the Caribbean country in San Sebastián, marking an important step in the geographical and cultural expansion of the competition.

Although clubs from Puerto Rico had shown interest in previous editions, none had taken the final step until now. The arrival of Hispania FF confirms a positive trend in a region not traditionally represented at the Donosti Cup. The Caribbean continues to gain presence following the debut of the Dominican Republic in the last edition and the addition of Puerto Rico this year.

Founded in 2013 in Puerto Rico and currently based in Spain, Hispania FF stands out for its strong commitment to player development and international projection. One of its most notable success stories is Jeremy de León, a former academy player, full international with Puerto Rico, currently a Real Madrid player on loan at Hércules de Alicante CF, and regarded as one of the young talents expected to lead the future of football in the country. He gained significant media attention as part of Real Madrid’s squad during their recent UEFA Champions League triumph.

In addition, players such as Fabián Rodríguez and Alejandro Almenas have joined the youth academy of Sevilla FC in recent years, reflecting the academy’s strong developmental work. The club has also recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Sevilla FC Academy aimed at the development of its players. In this context, over the past few months, more than 150 Hispania FF players born in Puerto Rico have trained under Sevilla’s methodology, experiencing full immersion in a professional football environment within the Sevilla FC organization.

At the Donosti Cup, Hispania FF will compete with four boys’ teams under the sporting direction of David Caballero, originally from Andalusia, who has worked in Puerto Rican football for more than 10 years and has been a key figure in bringing the project to San Sebastián.

With this addition, Puerto Rico becomes the 84th country to participate in the history of the Donosti Cup. Four teams with talent, ambition, and a strong educational focus will join the tournament this summer, ready to leave their mark on the pitches of Donostia.

Welcome to the Donosti Cup!
