Vicky López and Cata Coll recognised at the Ballon d’Or ceremony
Both players, who took part in the Donosti Cup during their formative years, received awards at yesterday’s ceremony in London.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, held yesterday in London, brought two major honours for Spanish women’s football and for two players who know the Donosti Cup well. Vicky López received the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best young player, while Cata Coll was named the season’s best goalkeeper.
Both players are members of FC Barcelona and share a connection through their participation in the San Sebastián tournament during the early stages of their football careers. Their journeys reflect the development of two players who, after competing in youth football, have established themselves among the international elite.
Vicky López took part in several editions of the Donosti Cup with Madrid CFF. She won the tournament in 2018 and finished as runner-up in 2019. The Madrid-born player, who represents Spain at senior international level, received the Kopa Trophy for the second consecutive year, having become the first female winner of the award in 2025.
Cata Coll, meanwhile, was named the season’s best goalkeeper following an outstanding season with FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. The goalkeeper from the Balearic Islands, who competed in the tournament with Atlético Marratxí in 2015, has played an important role in the recent successes of both teams, including Barcelona’s titles in Liga F, the Copa de la Reina, the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The awards won by both players once again highlight the journeys of footballers who took part in the Donosti Cup during their formative years. For the tournament, it is a source of pride to see players who competed on its pitches continue to develop and achieve the highest honours in world football.
Donosti Cup congratulates Vicky López and Cata Coll on these well-deserved awards and wishes them continued success in their sporting careers.
