Donosti Cup opens the third call for applications for the “Donosti Cup Munduan” Grants

The third edition of the “Donosti Cup Munduan” Scholarships is now open, and interested organisations can submit their applications until 1 November.

9 de October de 2026

Donosti Cup has opened the third call for applications for the “Donosti Cup Munduan” Scholarships, a programme that enables teams in vulnerable situations to take part in the international youth football tournament, which brings together thousands of young people from around the world in San Sebastián every summer.

The initiative was launched in 2024 to continue the work Donosti Cup has been carrying out for more than three decades. Over this period, more than 50 teams from countries including Sierra Leone, Zambia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, India, Nepal, Palestine, Ukraine, El Salvador and Bolivia have been able to participate in the tournament thanks to the organisation’s support. This track record has been recognised through awards such as the UNICEF National Award and the Iberdrola SuperA Award.

The scholarships are aimed at organisations that use football as a tool for social transformation and work to improve opportunities and quality of life for children and young people. Each year, two projects are selected, one for a boys’ team and one for a girls’ team. The selected teams take part in Donosti Cup with their participation and accommodation costs covered. The programme has an annual budget of approximately €60,000.

The projects selected in the first two editions reflect the diversity of communities reached by the programme. Dragones de Lavapiés, from Madrid, works with children using football as a tool for social integration, while Future Stars Academy, from Tanzania, combines sport, education and leadership, with a particular focus on gender equality and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

In the second edition, the selected projects were Live Active, an Angolan football academy that works with young people in vulnerable situations, and Tramontana La Mina, from Catalonia, the first federated Spanish football team made up of Roma girls.

Applications for the 2027 edition will remain open until 1 November. In the first few days, eleven applications have already been received from ten countries: Angola, Bangladesh, Brazil, Ethiopia, France, Haiti, Kenya, Mongolia, Palestine and Paraguay.

Interested organisations can consult the application guidelines and complete the registration form on the Donosti Cup website, attaching a report outlining their project and the work they carry out.

The goal remains the same: to make football a meeting point and ensure that travelling to San Sebastián is also an opportunity to discover different realities, share experiences and see what can happen when sport breaks down borders.
