Know the 50 Clubs that have participated in more than 10 editions of the Donosti Cup

One of the aspects that we value the most in the Donosti Cup is the high loyalty rate of the clubs. In each edition, 72% of the participating clubs have already attended the tournament before, a very high number, which clearly shows that teams that live the Donosti Cup experience want to repeat it again.

Below, we want to introduce you the 3 clubs that lead the fidelity ranking at foreign, national and local levels:

The foreign club with more participations is Espagnol d’Orleans. This club has participated in 20 of the 28 editions held and it has generally participated with categories of boys from 10 to 12 years old. The club was founded by a group of Spanish people who had to escape to France during the Spanish Civil War. They were stablished in Orleans and formed a soccer club so that their children could be integrated in the society. The behavior of their teams in the Donosti Cup on and off the field has always been exemplary. José Gonzalez and Santiago Jiménez have been the responsible that have made possible for this club to attend so many editions of the Donosti Cup. It should be noted that this club also attends each year the veteran’s tournament Donosti Maters Cup.

Complutense Alcalá, “la Complu”, is the Spanish club with the highest number of participations. This club from Alcalá de Henares was founded in the 1991-92 season, the same year when the Donosti Cup was born. They participated in that historic first edition in 1992 with 2 teams, youth and cadet, and since then, the Donosti Cup became their favorite competition of the end of the season and they have attended it with many teams. Its President Andrés Pizarro and his faithful collaborator Paco Tortajada have been the responsible of the unstoppable growth of this club that nowadays has 24 teams, from "dummies" to "seniors", and which has been constantly renovating its facilities result of a generous effort.

And the club that leads the overall ranking is the Antiguoko KE from San Sebastián, which has 25 participations. They also participated in that 1st edition with 2 teams, U14 and U12, and in this last team players like Xabi Alonso, Mikel Alonso or Mikel Arteta, who is actually training Arsenal, participated. In addition to being the club with the higher number of participations, this club from San Sebastian also holds another important title: it is the club with more finals won in the tournament (30). He got one of his last titles at the Anoeta Stadium in 2016 and one of his players, Ander Barrenetxea, is now playing with Real Sociedad in the Spanish league.

To these 3 clubs and to all the rest 47 clubs that have participated in more than 10 editions, our most sincere gratitude for their fidelity and for all the pages that they helped us to write in the history of the Donosti Cup.
